A celebration of the beauty in becoming you
The Story
Inspired by my own journey of self-evolution, finding my resilience and celebrating wins in advance, Becoming sprung to life after much reflection on not only my story but also the stories of so many other women and young girls around me who continue to blossom in the face of adversity. It was my dream to pay homage to the feminine experience and celebrate the beauty of the process with paint on canvas. Each painting is a harmony of imagery that reflects the themes encountered along the way, such as grace, femininity, sophistication and the beauty in becoming you.
But first...
Thank You to my mum who continues to be my biggest help and support system as I realise my many artistic dreams and endeavours.
Painting No.1
'Guarded by Petals, Rooted in Resilience'
Guarded by Petals, Rooted in Resilience
This painting features the partially concealed face of a woman as its focal point, who is shrouded in an array of deep violet Iris flowers, two huddled doves and a white orchid, set against a background of an abstracted croton leaf with beautiful paint marks and textures.
Orchids: Symbols of purity, innocence and elegance.
Painting No.2
'El Lumina: Radiance and Reverie'
El Lumina: Radiance and Reverie
A charming contrast of cool and warmth, this painting features the partially concealed face of a silhouetted woman, surrounded by tropical florals like the orchids and heliconia. The magnolia flowers glow as they bloom around her. The orange and black shapes of an abstracted croton leaf makes up the braided hair that cascades behind her shoulders.
Painting No.3
'Flourish in Bloom'
Flourish in Bloom
With a striking contrast of an abstracted croton leaf to make up the partial silhouette of the female focal point, this painting captures pure elegance and sophistication as it features some of the island's known and loved florals: a King Protea and Anthurium as well as a Diederik Cuckoo bird, in a colour harmony of pinks, oranges and greens.
Crotons: Symbols of joy and transformation.
Painting No.4
'Pride and Passion'
Pride and Passion
This painting features the silhouette of a partially veiled woman accompanied by a festive arrangement of various tropical and Bajan elements such as the rare but relished sugar apple, coconuts, orchids, sparrow bird and a flamboyant flower all set against the wash of blue and turquoise hues.
Painting No.5
'A Silver Horizon: Serenity in Bloom'
A Silver Horizon: Serenity in Bloom
Within the frame of a Bajan Silver Dollar, this sky-blue themed, one-of-a-kind painting, features the silhouette of a Caribbean woman who as the focal point reflects a harmony of some of the islands' locals favourite things : tropical fruits and the crisp blue ocean. Against the background of the woman's afro, made up of the vibrant orange and black shapes of an abstracted croton leaf, a beloved turquoise hummingbird lay nestled behind the soft white petals of a magnolia flower.
